Psoriasis is a skin condition characterized by a change in the skin cells’ lifecycle.  When psoriasis occurs, skin cells grow at a much faster rate than normal, resulting in silvery thick scales and itchy patches which can sometimes become painful. Psoriasis does not occur acutely; those who are afflicted with this skin condition have it for long periods of time oftentimes lasting for several years.

Psoriasis can occur in various parts of the body, as well as the nails, joints, and scalp. There are five kinds of psoriasis: plaque, guttate, pustular, inverse, and erythrodermic psoriasis. While the exact cause of psoriasis is unknown it is believed that a weak immune system increase one’s predisposition to this skin infection. However, there are many kinds of natural remedies available to treat psoriasis:

Placing Epsom salts or Dead Sea salt to warm bath water and soaking it for about 20 minutes can decrease itching and assist in the safe removal of scales. Once you get out of the shower or tub, apply moisturizer to your skin to keep its elasticity.

Capsaicin, the active ingredient in chili peppers, is widely used as an ingredient in topical creams and ointments that are designed to alleviate pain. This is because capsaicin has been scientifically proven to block the nerve endings that are responsible for transmitting pain. In addition, creams that contain capsaicin have also been shown to be effective in reducing redness and scaling. While some people report a mild tingling or burning sensation when using capsaicin creams, these tend to go away after a while.

Apple cider vinegar is beneficial in relieving itchiness in scalp psoriasis. You can apply the apple cider vinegar directly on the scalp after a shower. If you find this too strong, it can also be diluted in some water. However this remedy must be avoided completely if your scalp is already bleeding.

Aloe Vera gel can be directly applied to skin infected with psoriasis. Aloe Vera has been scientifically proven to help with numerous skin infections, including psoriasis. If you don’t have access to fresh Aloe Vera plants, you can also buy creams that contain 0.5% aloe.

Gently wrap the infected area with over the counter medical patches can help your psoriasis remedies stay in place for much longer. Doing this can help make sure that the sores are all covered, and the moisturizer is really being absorbed by your skin.
