However, it isn’t recommended to self-medicate with individual supplements. These kinds of pills usually contain 100% of the nutrient’s recommended daily allowance, which means that it may result in an overdose. Water-soluble vitamins such as B-Complex and vitamin C are considered safe since these are excreted through the urine. Fat soluble vitamins, on the other hand, can stay in the organs for several months at a time and can put you at risk for overdose. Overdosing on zinc can cause loss of muscle coordination, drowsiness, and nausea. It’s always important to practice moderation when taking vitamins and minerals. Multivitamins are a great way to give your body a dose of the vitamins and minerals that it needs to function properly, which you may not be getting enough of from your food. All vitamins and minerals are important in their own unique way. Taking one multivitamin a day is an effective way of strengthening your immune system while preventing nutritional deficiencies.
