Judo (jūdō) Martial Arts: History, Techniques, Rank & Grading

Judo is a form of martial arts that was created in Japan in 1882 by Jigoro Kano. Today it has been accepted as a popular Olympic sport and has gathered a huge following from all over the world.

The meaning of Judo

Jigoro Kano chose the name Judo, because when translated it means, the gentle way. Judo was not designed to be an aggressive form of attack or for the use of combat purposes. It was meant to be a means to defend oneself and to implement its learning to create a richer quality of life.
